Description of the video:

My favorite thing would be class sizes for sure. Our whole program is very small, so you get to build relationships with students and faculty. My favorite thing is the community that I've built through the small class sizes and just making friends and having a good relationship with the staff. My favorite thing would be that I can do so much with this degree. I'm not limited to one thing because I am someone that always wants to involve and find new ways to branch out. And when I first started this degree, I never would have expected all of my possibilities that are limitless that I can do to always keep me entertained and helping somebody in a different way than I was before. I think just experiences like you gain relationships that you wouldn't have in a bigger class setting. Most of my classes are like 20 people or less, so I get to gain confidence and friendships. An experience that was meaningful to me was I got to talk to some freshmen and I got to tell them all about the program. It was really fun. The support that I have had from my teachers and my counselor and my tutors, they have really picked me up when I needed it with studies and have been very encouraging and always available to help and making me not feel bad for not understanding right away. As of right now I don't have a career goal set in stone. I have a few things that are interesting, like pharmaceutical sales, somewhere in finance, or even HR. My career goals are to go on and get my master's and then my doctorate and then to help run a hospital one day. I would love to run a nursing home facility and remove the negative stigma from going into nursing homes and impact senior care and also create a really great work environment for my employees so they want to stay, they want to have longevity there, and know that they are valued and heard and everyone is being taken care of, not just the residents. The faculty and staff has been a huge contributor to my success, from my very first academic meeting they had my whole four years listed out for me, so I knew exactly what classes I needed to take and it made finding those electives really easy. The faculty and staff are always there when I need them. They are just readily available, you can ask any question and they are there to support you. So much I would not be here without a lot of the staff and my tutors. They have supported me and gave me a confidence that I'm able to sit here and be a junior, so a whole bunch. A few things motivated me to get an HSM degree. At the beginning of like my college experience I really wanted to do something clinical, and then after taking those classes I realized the clinical side was not for me at all. So more of the business side is what I looked forward to. I started out in the clinical side of things, and I decided that I did not like it and I found that the business side was definitely for me. I was a medic for many years and I felt that I could more and I was almost called to find a way to help people in a different way. I didn't want to be a nurse anymore, so I was like what other way can I help take care of people that was pandemic and recession free, and this is the degree that I came upon and I've been elated by it. If you're contemplating starting school, just do it, take that first step. You will have support and if you need any help there are so many people willing to help you and there's a lot of activities on campus that are fun to meet people and get you out of your shell. It's a great community to be a part of. So you've just got to go do it!

Improve access to care, prevent disease and make healthy communities a reality

In health administration and public health, we solve problems each day to create opportunities for others.

With projects as varied as our statewide COVID-19 prevalence study to an updated report on life expectancy, a public health infrastructure report to an eight-year investment in preventing and reducing diabetes prevalence in three Indiana neighborhoods, the Fairbanks School of Public Health is on the frontlines of improving health for our neighbors.

Unpaid internship stipend

Thanks to the generous support of alumni and the Dean’s Advisory Council, the Fairbanks School of Public Health offers unpaid internship stipends of $500-$1,000. The Fairbanks School recognizes that internships are essential experiential learning opportunities that foster our students’ academic growth and career readiness.

These funds are designed to help reduce financial barriers to accessing those experiences by offsetting expenses incurred while completing an unpaid internship for academic credit.
